Verne's World
About This Machine
Verne, manufactured by Spinball S.A.L. of Fuenlabrada, Spain in 1996, is a four-player widebody solid-state pinball with an adventure-fantasy theme evoking Jules Verne-style exploration, fitting given its name. Its designer isn't documented, but the machine's mechanical toys make it distinctive among Spanish machines of the era.
The playfield's signature feature is a moving giant octopus ball-capture toy hidden in a cave behind the right ramp, alongside a submarine toy. A balloon in the top center of the playfield captures balls and rises as it catches them; once three balls are caught, it ascends further and releases a 3-ball multiball, with a volcano eruption marking the transition into multiball play.
Beyond these signature toys, Verne offers a fairly standard SS playfield: three flippers, two pop bumpers, a slingshot, eight standup targets, a 4-bank of drop targets, and left/right crossover return lanes. A buy-in feature is also included, letting players pay for continued play where local rules allow.
