Boing Boing
About This Machine
Boing Boing is an electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine from Talleres del Llobregat S.A. [Automaticos] of Barcelona, Spain, a copy of Williams' 1971 'Doodle Bug'. According to a Spanish-language metal plate affixed to the game, it was approved in 1972 by the General Directorate of Security and authorized to operate commercially in 1973.
The machine boasts a robust set of playfield features, including two flippers, five pop bumpers, and two slingshots. Five standup targets and four rollover buttons add to the challenge, while a kick-out hole and a right-outlane ball return gate showcase attention to detail. The wedge head and drop-down cabinet contribute to the machine's distinctive appearance.
One of Boing Boing's most striking aspects is its scoring animation below the playfield, which moves a captive ball as points are scored. As one of the few machines produced by this lesser-known Barcelona manufacturer, Boing Boing remains an interesting curiosity for EM enthusiasts and collectors of early-1970s Spanish pinball.
