Gemini 2000
About This Machine
The Gemini 2000, manufactured by Taito do Brasil in 1982, is a solid-state electronic pinball machine with an outer-space theme, arriving as the genre's popularity was peaking following games like Stern's 1980 'Flight 2000' — a clear conceptual influence — and sharing playfield layout similarities with Bally's 1981 'Centaur.'
In terms of gameplay, the Gemini 2000 features two flippers, two pop bumpers, and two slingshots. Four-bank drop targets (two of them) and 4-in-line drop targets add challenge and strategy to the game. A distinctive touch is the bounce-back outlane posts, which let players nudge a draining ball back into play through wire-form gates on the inlanes.
Notably, the manufacturer's flyer shows that black rubbers were intended for this 1982 release, while American-made games of the period still used white rubbers — a small but telling detail of the machine's regional production. Little information is available about the game's designer, but Gemini 2000 offers a window into Taito do Brasil's space-themed output during the early 1980s.
