Gold Standard Double
About This Machine
Gold Standard Double is a pure mechanical pinball machine manufactured by Standard Amusement Co., Inc. of Beaumont, Texas in 1933, during the company's short 1932-1933 run. Like the company's Lone Star Derby, it featured twin playfields set side by side, letting two games be played simultaneously on a single cabinet. It was also produced in a variant called the "Gold Standard Horseshoe Double."
As a pure mechanical machine from 1933, Gold Standard Double predates the invention of the flipper by well over a decade; play would have relied on plunger shots, gravity, and mechanical targets rather than flipper-controlled shots.
Little else is documented about the machine's designer, artwork, or specific theme, but its twin-playfield design links it closely to Standard Amusement's other early-1930s output and makes it a notable example of the era's experimentation with dual-game cabinets.
