About This Machine

Evel Knievel, designed by Gary Gayton with artwork by Paul Faris, was manufactured by Bally in June 1977 as a four-player solid-state (SS) machine built around the daredevil's celebrity image - one of Bally's Celebrities/Licensed-theme releases. It was also produced in an electro-mechanical version. With 14,000 confirmed units built, it was a substantial production run for the era, and the game shipped to operators at a listed price of $1,545 FOB Chicago as of August 1977.

Gameplay includes dual flippers, three pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two slingshots, six standup targets, a 5-bank of drop targets, a kick-out hole, and two spinning targets. The maximum displayed score is capped at 999,990 points. The solid-state electronics of this era enabled more elaborate scoring and sound compared to prior electro-mechanical designs.

The game's art and theme bring Evel Knievel's daredevil persona to the playfield, and its combination of strong production numbers and celebrity licensing theme has made it a popular pickup for collectors interested in 1970s Bally machines.
