About This Machine

Dino Turbo, produced in 1990 by Geiger-Automatenbau GmbH of Germany, is not a standalone pinball machine but a conversion kit designed to convert Williams' 1980 title 'Firepower' into an auto-racing themed game. Geiger, which made conversion kits between 1978 and 1992, produced a confirmed run of 150 units of Dino Turbo.

The conversion reuses Firepower's underlying playfield mechanics while re-theming the game as a driving simulator: the backglass depicts the player's car as Car 28, styled as a reproduction of a Ferrari (shown as Car 12 in the backglass artwork). While no date or artist credit appears on the surviving kit pieces themselves, Geiger has confirmed that artist Michele "Mike" Martinelli created the artwork for all of the company's conversion kits, including this one.

As one of Geiger's later conversion kits before the company's run of pinball conversions ended in 1992, Dino Turbo offers an interesting example of the European conversion-kit market, where existing American machines were given new themes and extended lifespans rather than being manufactured from scratch.
