Playboy
About This Machine
Playboy was a pinball project begun by Williams Electronics Games, intended for a November 1999 release on the Williams Pinball 2000 platform, but it never reached production. According to WMS designers Louis Koziarz and Ted Estes, the game was still in the early whitewood stage when Williams halted pinball production — at that point, Williams had not yet secured the Playboy license, and no artwork had been created for the game.
Because it never progressed past an unfinished prototype, little is documented about Playboy's intended gameplay, theme execution, or rules. A submitted image of the whitewood shows an incomplete machine — one contributor noted that a mechanism partway up the left side of the playfield appeared to be missing or never built, with only a rag plugging the hole.
Playboy's existence as an abandoned prototype nonetheless illustrates the ambitious slate of games Williams had in development when it exited the pinball industry at the end of 1999, cutting short several Pinball 2000 projects before they could be finished.
