About This Machine

Godzilla, released by Sega Pinball in August 1998, is a six-player solid-state machine built around the licensed Godzilla movie theme. Designed by Joe Balcer with artwork by Morgan Weistling, the game was advertised at the time for its "easy service" design.

The game features several notable mechanical elements: a Ball Diverter that drops the ball out of Godzilla's mouth, four electromagnets beneath the playfield, and a shaker motor, all contributing to a dynamic, physically engaging play experience. A Godzilla toy figure sits on the playfield as a central visual feature. According to The Pinball Compendium 1982 to Present, the Godzilla head on the playfield was sculpted by Dave Link, founder of Evolution Studio.

While far from the first licensed movie-themed pinball machine — licensed themes had a long history in pinball before 1998 — Godzilla stands out among Sega's late-1990s output for its engaging use of electromechanical toys tied directly to its Whitestar-era licensed theme.
