About This Machine

La Retata, manufactured by Geiger-Automatenbau GmbH of Germany (active 1978-1992) in 1992, is a solid-state electronic pinball machine and a conversion kit built on Williams' 1986 'High Speed'. Only 100 units were confirmed produced, and it holds the distinction of being the last pinball conversion kit released by this manufacturer.

The name "La Retata" is Italian for "The Raid," and the backglass and playfield artwork, created by Michele "Mike" Martinelli, draw on imagery from the Hollywood films Dragnet (1987) and RoboCop (1988). As a conversion kit, La Retata reused High Speed's underlying hardware and layout while giving it new artwork and a new identity.

Details on specific gameplay features beyond its conversion-kit origins are limited, but La Retata stands as a notable late entry in Geiger's pinball output. The company later shifted its business, renaming itself Geiger-Parts in 2009 to focus on supplying spare parts for pinball, dart, foosball, and billiard games.
