About This Machine

The Tasty Samba, manufactured by Industria (Electromecánica) de Recreativos S.A. of Madrid, Spain in 1977, is an electro-mechanical pinball machine with a music and dancing theme. It was also released in a 4-player EM version by INDER the same year.

Key gameplay features include two flippers, three pop bumpers, and two spinning targets, plus a kick-out hole. The machine's layout allows for open-elbow inlanes, enabling the ball to pass from inlane to outlane and vice versa, adding a layer of complexity to the gameplay. With options for 3 or 5-ball play, Tasty Samba offers added variety compared to simpler EM machines.

The machine's theme, centered around music and dancing, is reflected in its artwork. Notably, some surviving examples of this one-player version have been found with a digital score display kit added in front of the original EM score reels, along with a basic sound board; it is unclear whether this modification was factory-installed or a later addition, and one surviving video of the game shows visible EM score reels with electronic-sounding audio, possibly the result of mixed parts common among Spanish collectors due to parts scarcity.
