World Star
About This Machine
The Dama S.R.L. World Star, manufactured in Milan, Italy in 1970, is an electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine and a conversion kit for Williams' 1967 'Magic Town.' It carries a fashion and modeling theme, an uncommon subject for pinball games of that era.
The machine features two flippers, three pop bumpers, and two slingshots, along with five standup targets that provide additional scoring opportunities. Notably, the game has no outlanes. This combination gives World Star a relatively streamlined layout compared to more elaborate EM machines of the period.
Little information exists on the designer or specific artistic contributions to the machine's appearance. Two different backglass versions of the game are known, bearing an 'Md' logo on one and an 'aD' (or possibly 'Da') logo on the other; the meaning of these logos, possibly related to the company that would later become Dama, is unconfirmed. Its rarity and distinct theme make World Star a fascinating piece of early Italian pinball history.
