About This Machine

Angels, released by Dama S.R.L. of Milan, Italy in 1970, is a conversion kit for Gottlieb's 1966 'Rancho,' adapted with a motorcycle theme for the Italian market. Rather than an original design, it represents the practice of European operators and small manufacturers repurposing existing American machines with new art and themes.

The gameplay retains the underlying mechanics of its Gottlieb base, with two flippers and three pop bumpers providing a challenging and engaging experience for players. The addition of twin roto-targets adds a scoring twist, while three passive bumpers round out the layout.

The conversion's plexiglas backglass, measuring 50 cm by 55 cm, gives the game its distinct motorcycle-themed visual identity — a departure from the fruit-machine or animal motifs common on some contemporaneous games. Little is documented about who at Dama S.R.L. produced the conversion, but it remains an interesting example of how Rancho was localized for the Italian market.
