About This Machine

The Champion Pub is a notable entry in Midway's sports-themed lineup, manufactured under the Bally trade name in April 1998 on the Williams WPC-95 platform. With 1,369 confirmed units produced, it arrived late in the era of physical pinball manufacturing, shortly before Williams/Bally-Midway exited the pinball business entirely in 1999.

The game's boxing theme comes through in its standout toys: a punching bag that rotates 180 degrees to reveal a boxer figure that waves its arms, with ramps guiding the ball to land hits and "body blows" on both sides of the figure's face. A mini-playfield lets players launch the ball at a speed bag using plastic fists instead of flippers, and a rotating "jump rope" mechanism must be hopped over via a button-controlled solenoid.

Gameplay otherwise uses a traditional two-flipper layout with an up-post between the flippers and an autoplunger. The backglass also features a notable Easter egg: a list of real pinball industry personnel appear as illustrated characters on it. Concept work came from Pete Piotrowski, with art by Paul Barker and Linda Doane, and software by Dwight Sullivan.
