Joel Silver, The Pinball
About This Machine
Joel Silver, The Pinball is a one-of-a-kind machine commissioned as a gift for film producer Joel Silver, dated February 11, 1991, from Data East Pinball. Only one unit was ever made.
The game is based on Data East's Star Trek 25th Anniversary machine, reworked with the dilithium crystals replaced by popcorn. It's packed with sound bytes from people who worked with Silver, plus recordings of Silver himself — including the line "Cut Cut CUT!!! Keep that up and you'll be selling shoes!!!" The machine was designed by Joe Kaminkow and Ed Cebula, with sound by Brian Schmidt and software by Kristina Donofrio.
For many years, the game sat in Silver's reception area at Warner Bros., making it a genuine piece of Hollywood memorabilia as much as a pinball machine — a personalized, one-off tribute rather than a commercial product.
