About This Machine

Champ is a 1963 electro-mechanical pinball machine from Midway Manufacturing Company, sharing its playfield with Midway's earlier 1963 release 'Race-Way.' Based on the dated schematic diagram, Champ appears to have followed Race-Way into production late that year.

A two-player, auto-racing themed widebody game, Champ features five balls per game, two flippers, four slingshots, seven hanging targets, and dual outlanes on both sides. Its standout feature is a mechanical backbox animation depicting cars racing around a track, with the ball shot into play from the outhole. Unlike Race-Way, whose tilt circuit reportedly ended the game for both players when one tilted, Champ's schematic is explicitly marked "Two Tilt," ending the game only for the player who tilted.

With only a handful of period distributor mentions ever found and no known manufacturer advertising, Champ appears to have been a limited, lesser-known variant of Race-Way rather than a major standalone release.
