Aaron Spelling
About This Machine
The Aaron Spelling pinball machine, released in February 1992 by Data East Pinball, is one of the more personal machines in pinball history. It was commissioned by Spelling's second wife as a gift to the television and film producer behind hits like "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Dynasty." Rather than designing a game from scratch, Data East built it by modifying a game already in production, its 1992 "Lethal Weapon 3" — though it's not known whether the changes went beyond cosmetics.
Only two units of this four-player, solid-state machine were ever made. Reportedly, the playfield features a target bearing a picture of Spelling's daughter Tori that says "I love you daddy" when hit, a small personal touch fitting for a machine built as a private gift rather than a commercial release.
Because so few were made and so little about it was publicized, many of its specific gameplay details remain undocumented, adding to its mystique as one of pinball's more curious one-off tribute machines.
