About This Machine

No Good Gofers, designed by Pat Lawlor and Louis Koziarz, is a golf-themed pinball machine released by Williams in December 1997, with 2,711 units confirmed produced. This solid-state electronic game, built on WPC-95 hardware, is a well-regarded entry from the twilight years of Williams' pinball division, which would cease pinball production in 1999.

The gameplay on No Good Gofers is packed with features: three flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, and three ramps provide multiple paths to scoring, while two spinning targets, a spinning disc, a captive ball, and a Newton ball post add varied shot types. A left outlane kickback and dual left inlanes round out a dynamic playfield, and ramp entrances elevate to allow access to two "Beaverbash" bash toy targets. Voice work was provided by Jon Hey as Bud and Vince Pontarelli as Buzz.

Visually, No Good Gofers is a treat, with colorful art by John Youssi and dot animations by Adam Rhine capturing the spirit of a chaotic golf course. Interestingly, reports suggest the whitewood and some fifteen early prototypes featured a pop-up gopher toy that was removed from production games for cost reasons, though it's unclear whether all of those units were true prototypes or early production games. Despite this behind-the-scenes trivia, No Good Gofers remains a well-loved title among collectors for its dense feature set and playful theme.
