Hit-It
About This Machine
Hit-It, manufactured by O. D. Jennings and Company of Chicago in September 1936, is an early electro-mechanical (EM) payout machine. Jennings operated as a Chicago coin-machine manufacturer from 1932 to 1938, producing a range of games during this period, including Hit-It.
Little specific documentation survives about Hit-It's gameplay, scoring, or design. As an EM payout machine of this era, it would have used electromagnets and relays to control play and determine payouts, predating the flipper — which was not introduced into pinball until more than a decade later.
Details about Hit-It's artwork and theme are similarly scarce, consistent with the utilitarian design of many payout machines from this early period. It remains a modest artifact of O. D. Jennings' output during the mid-1930s.
