About This Machine

Left or Right, produced by Pacific Amusement Manufacturing Company (PAMCO) in May 1935, was one of five compact machines PAMCO marketed together as the "Quintuplets," alongside Hit or Miss, Make or Break, Odd or Even, and Double or Nothing. Each shared a small 14-by-25-inch cabinet intended for locations too tight for a full-size machine, with detachable legs that let it double as a countertop game.

As with its EM contemporaries, Left or Right predates the pinball flipper by more than a decade, so gameplay relied on a plunger-launched ball interacting with fixed pins, targets, and scoring pockets rather than player-operated flippers. Specific rules and scoring details for this title have not survived in detail.

The design and artwork of Left or Right are not well documented, consistent with the limited record-keeping typical of small manufacturers in this era. Pinball historian Harry Williams speculated in a 1982 interview that designer Bon MacDougall may have been responsible for the Quintuplet series, though this has never been confirmed. Left or Right remains a minor but interesting piece of pinball history as part of PAMCO's experimental miniature game line.
