About This Machine

Cactus Jack is a country-and-western themed pinball machine from April 1991, manufactured by Premier Technology under the Gottlieb trade name in a confirmed run of 1,900 units. Designed by Reinhard Bangerter and Jon Norris, with artwork by David Moore, Constantino Mitchell, and Jeanine Mitchell, the game blends music, singing, dancing, and comedy into a lighthearted rural romp running on the Gottlieb System 3 platform.

The machine's signature feature is its set of mechanical cactus toys, which "dance" during multiballs and special events - a charming gimmick that gives the game a personality all its own. Backing up the dancing cacti are two flippers, three pop bumpers, two 4-bank drop target arrays, three standup targets, and a vertical up-kicker, providing plenty of shots to keep players busy. The game also debuted a new sound board design, with audio by Dave Zabriskie and software by Allen Edwall.

As one of the lesser-known entries in the Gottlieb catalog, Cactus Jack offers pinball enthusiasts an entertaining slice of early-1990s design, when toys and animated playfield features were becoming a defining element of the modern game.
