Space Shuttle
About This Machine
Space Shuttle, released in 1986 by Universal de Desarrollos Electronicos (Unidesa) of Barcelona, Spain, is a Spanish-built edition of Williams' 1984 machine of the same name. Williams shipped Unidesa kits containing most of the game's components (excluding cabinet and playfield glass), with a March 1986 internal Williams communication referencing a quotation for 500 such kits, though the exact number completed as full games is not known.
Space Shuttle uses a space-exploration theme and features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 3-bank drop target, a timed drop target, seven standup targets, a spinning target, two ramps, a right outlane detour gate, lane change, and an up-post between the flippers. It offers both 2-ball and 3-ball multiball.
Because it reproduces an existing Williams design rather than an original Unidesa creation, its significance lies mainly in its role as part of Williams' export/licensing relationship with Spanish manufacturer Unidesa during the mid-1980s, and in the regional differences between this and the original U.S. release.
