Cobra
About This Machine
The Cobra, a 1987 solid-state pinball machine from Playbar S.A. of Barcelona, Spain, is almost identical to Nuova Bell Games' own 1987 'Cobra', and its circuit boards were reportedly engineered by E.F.O., also of Barcelona. Built around a Cops and Robbers theme, it offers three flippers, one pop bumper, and two slingshots for gameplay.
One of the Cobra's distinctive features is an action ring located in the upper playfield, though the specific rules tied to it are not documented. The theme is expressed through graphics evoking police chases and heists, typical of the crime-themed pinball machines of the era.
As a close cousin to Nuova Bell Games' version of the same title, Cobra is a useful example of how pinball designs were shared or licensed among Spanish and Italian manufacturers in the late 1980s, making it an interesting piece for collectors researching this cross-manufacturer relationship.
