Io Moon
About This Machine
Io Moon, manufactured by SLEIC (Creaciones e Investigaciones Electrónicas) of Madrid, Spain in 1996, was one of the last titles from this relatively short-lived Spanish manufacturer, which operated from 1992 to 1996. Its backglass, playfield, and cabinet artwork depict the spaceship and black monolith from the 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey," and an arrangement of the film's music plays throughout gameplay.
Gameplay on Io Moon is marked by three flippers, including a game-controlled mini-flipper alongside two regular-sized flippers, adding an extra layer of complexity to the playing experience. The machine boasts five pop bumpers, four of which have caps styled as fanciful, internally lit asteroids. A 5-bank drop target and dual inlanes on the left side provide multiple shot opportunities, along with two slingshots. A ramp on the playfield terminates in an aerial whirlpool that drops the ball back at the top of the playfield, and a turnaround shot with a diverter sits beneath the planet hemisphere in the upper-left playfield.
Io Moon's Outer Space - Science Fiction theme, built around its 2001: A Space Odyssey licensing, makes it a distinctive and collectible late entry in SLEIC's short production history.
