About This Machine

The Best Jump, manufactured by Mondialmatic of Florence, Italy in 1979, is an EM conversion kit built from Gottlieb's 1973 'Top Hand', with a backglass depicting a King Kong-like gorilla clutching a jet aircraft.

The game featured two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, four 4-bank drop targets, and three standup targets. Interestingly, The Best Jump was produced in two different display variants: one with a 5-digit electro-mechanical score-reel display (maxing out at 999,990 points, with additional scoring above that shown by lighting numbers silkscreened in the backglass's 'cloud' area), and another with a 7-digit solid-state display capable of showing up to 9,999,990 points directly (with higher scores again indicated via the backglass numbers, up to an equivalent of 90,999,990 points).

The Best Jump's fantasy theme, built around fictional characters, is reflected in its distinctive backglass artwork. No designer credit is documented for the game, but its dual-format production run makes it a notable curiosity among Mondialmatic's Italian EM conversion kits.
