About This Machine
Mondialmatic's 1979 Lovers pinball machine is an EM conversion kit built for Gottlieb's 1974 'Sky Dive', and one of several Italian conversion titles the company produced in this period. The artwork is credited to Michele "Mike" Martinelli, though two known playfield color variants exist (blue and crimson), and a 'Doringo 80' signature found on the blue version has added some uncertainty about who painted which run.
The Lovers boasts an impressive array of gameplay elements, including two flippers, three pop bumpers, a single slingshot, eight standup targets, and seven drop targets. The left side features a dual-inlane design, adding an extra layer of challenge to navigating the ball's path. Electronic sound effects enhance the experience, and a wedge-shaped head completes the machine's look.
While no theme is documented for Lovers, its electro-mechanical construction and distinctive feature set make it an interesting piece for collectors and historians researching Italy's small EM pinball-conversion industry of the late 1970s.
