Crocket
About This Machine
Crocket, manufactured in 1976 by Giorgio Massiero of Milan, Italy, is a single-player electro-mechanical add-a-ball machine with a croquet-themed design centered on games and happiness.
Gameplay is unusual: there is no ball shooter lane, and pressing the right flipper button instead launches the ball from the outhole. Two captive ball areas at the top of the playfield each feature a kicker lane, alongside two flippers, a pop bumper, a slingshot, four standup targets, four kick-out holes, four captive balls, a 4-bank drop target, and dual right inlanes. The cabinet uses a Gottlieb-style wedge head, card holder, and front coin door, and the machine has a distinctive 'biri-biri' sound.
The playfield depicts a girl playing croquet next to a boy with his fingers in his ears - an image borrowed from the backglass of Williams' 1968 'Ding Dong' - as the boy anticipates her mallet striking an oversized, lit cherry bomb. Crocket is a notable example of 1970s Italian electro-mechanical pinball manufacturing, though little is documented about specific sales or reception.
