Lap By Lap
About This Machine
Lap By Lap, produced in 1986 by Industria (Electromecánica) de Recreativos S.A. (INDER) of Madrid, Spain, is a Solid State Electronic four-player machine with an auto racing theme - one of many sports-themed titles from this prolific Spanish manufacturer.
Gameplay includes two flippers, three pop bumpers, two roll-under spinners, and a single kick-out hole. Its standout feature is backglass animation: a car moves incrementally around a track as players score on different shots, adding a visual progression element to the game. A plexiglas playfield rounds out the machine's design, and it reportedly used a unique CPU, possibly designated 60-158.
Details about Lap By Lap's designer are not well documented, but the machine is a good example of the mechanical animation gimmicks INDER incorporated into several of its solid-state machines during the 1980s.
