Atleta
About This Machine
The Atleta, manufactured in 1991 by Industria (Electromecánica) de Recreativos S.A. (INDER) of Madrid, Spain, is a Solid State Electronic four-player machine built around an athletics and track-and-field theme.
Gameplay features two flippers, two pop bumpers, three captive balls, two 3-bank drop targets, two star rollovers, a spinning target, a standup target, and a vertical up-kicker, along with a right dual-inlane and a left crossover return lane. An unusual plunger shot sends the ball to an elevated mini-playfield with a choice of two drop holes; one can return the ball to the shooter lane, where a diverter gate can act like a crossover return lane, feeding the right flipper.
A standout feature is the mechanical backbox animation, a bagatelle-style mechanism that adds a distinctive visual element uncommon on most pinball machines of the era. As one of INDER's several solid state releases, Atleta reflects the Spanish manufacturer's continued output through the early 1990s.
