About This Machine

The Keops, manufactured by Industria de Recreativos S.A. (INDER) of Madrid, Spain in 1976, is a rare electro-mechanical pinball machine with an Egyptology theme, referencing King Cheops (Khufu) of Egypt or the pyramid built for him. It shares an identical playfield layout with INDER's 1979 'Topaz' (with different artwork and theme), and its theme and layout are similar to Gottlieb's 1977 'Cleopatra'.

The game features two flippers, two pop bumpers, a single slingshot, five-bank drop targets, six standup targets, two spinning targets, and a right dual-inlane design. Reportedly, the entire production run was later fitted by the manufacturer with a kit adding a digital score display in front of the factory-installed EM score reels, along with a basic sound board with a speaker in place of chimes.

While little information is available about the game's designer or specific development process, Keops remains an interesting piece in the world of pinball, reflecting how Spanish manufacturers adapted Egyptian-themed designs popular among their American counterparts.
