301/Bulls Eye
About This Machine
301/Bulls Eye, released by Grand Products Incorporated of Elk Grove Village, Illinois in May 1986, is one of pinball's more unusual products: it was not a complete machine at all, but a conversion kit. Designed to fit inside an operator's existing Bally electronic 4-player cabinets of the period (excluding 'The Six Million Dollar Man' and widebody games), the kit included new cabinet decals and ran on the Bally AS-2518-17 MPU. According to the company's own sales manager, only 150 units were produced, and it was the only pinball product Grand Products ever made.
The game carries a darts theme, referencing the classic dart game 301 and the bullseye. Its playfield layout includes two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, ten standup targets, three kick-out holes, a spinning target, and a mini-post screw between the flippers.
With its confirmed 150-unit run and one-of-a-kind status in its manufacturer's history, 301/Bulls Eye is a genuinely rare footnote of the solid-state era, offering collectors a distinctive example of the 1980s conversion-kit business.
