Bamboo
About This Machine
Bally Bamboo is an electro-mechanical, single-player conversion of Bally's 1967 'Orient,' repurposed under a World Places theme. The 'Bamboo' name on the backglass, despite appearances, is not an adhesive label — it was hand-painted onto the glass from the back after the original 'Orient' lettering was removed.
As a converted bingo machine, Bamboo does not use conventional flippers; instead, like other bingo-style games, its play centers on ball placement into scoring holes to complete winning card patterns. Beyond its origin as an Orient conversion, little further documentation survives about Bamboo's specific rules or artwork.
Bamboo is a reminder of the common industry practice of repurposing existing cabinets and playfields into new titles, and its obscured history — including the mystery of exactly when and by whom the conversion was made — gives it a special curiosity for collectors of Bally's bingo-era machines.
