About This Machine

Brooks & Dunn was a country-and-western-themed pinball machine developed by Premier Technology under the Gottlieb name in 1996, but it was never produced. The game was entering production in the summer of 1996 just as Premier Technology - the company operating under the Gottlieb trademark - ceased operations and closed its doors. Concept work began with Tim Seckel, who left the company before finishing the playfield design; designer Jon Norris completed the layout and rules, while programmers Bob Wilson and John Buras worked on software that was never finished. Enough playfield components (ramps, plastics, mechanisms, translites) were produced for about ten games, and two prototype machines are said to exist, though some accounts say the design never advanced past the whitewood stage.

Because the software was never completed, claims about finished gameplay or sound design can't be verified - only buggy, incomplete prototype code exists. What is documented is the game's music-and-western theme, referencing the country duo Brooks & Dunn, and its Gottlieb System 3 hardware platform.

Brooks & Dunn stands today as one of the final, unfinished projects from Gottlieb's Premier Technology era - a snapshot of a game cut short by the company's closure rather than a completed commercial product.
