Twister
About This Machine
Twister, designed by John Borg and released by Sega Pinball in April 1996, is a licensed tie-in to the blockbuster disaster film of the same name. Built on the Sega/Stern Whitestar platform for up to six players, it leans hard into its storm-chasing theme with a motorized fan mounted atop the cabinet that starts and stops depending on the current mode, a "Dorothy II" canister in the upper-left playfield, and a sensor ball on a ramp -- all backed by artwork from Paul Faris and dot-matrix animations from Marc Raneses.
Gameplay features a busy layout for its era: two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, thirteen standup targets, two spinning targets, a drop target, a vertical up-kicker, a diverter magnet, and a spinning disc with magnet, all feeding into a robust multiball mode. At an actual measured weight of 236 lbs with legs, it's a substantial cabinet even by pinball standards.
As a film-licensed title from the mid-1990s, Twister captures the chaotic energy of its source material and remains a recognizable entry in Sega's pinball catalog from this period.
