Flash
About This Machine
Flash, manufactured by R.& H. Sales Company in November 1932, was designed by Oscar H. Ray and is a Pure Mechanical (PM) pinball machine, predating the introduction of electrical components to the game. Its gameplay relies on gravity and physical mechanisms rather than any powered features.
What sets Flash apart is its distinctive lighting: the top and sides of the playfield are surrounded by an artistically bent tube of neon lighting, which according to the Encyclopedia of Pinball Volume 2 glowed red. The machine came with its own stand, and play could be initiated with either a penny or a nickel.
While there's no specific theme or narrative tied to Flash, its mechanical simplicity and eye-catching neon feature make it a notable piece for collectors interested in the early 1930s, a period when manufacturers were still experimenting with materials and presentation to distinguish their games from a crowded field of competitors.
