Buccaneer
About This Machine
The Buccaneer is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine from June 1976, crafted by the renowned D. Gottlieb & Company. Designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Gordon Morison, it was produced in the final years of the EM era, just before solid-state technology swept the industry, with a confirmed production run of 3,812 units. An add-a-ball version of the game was released as Gottlieb's 1976 'Ship Ahoy', which was exported to Italy as 'High Seas'.
The playfield offers a range of interactive elements, including two flippers, three pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two slingshots, two standup targets, and a spinning target. The 3 or 5 ball play option adds an extra layer of challenge and strategy, and the maximum displayed point score is 199,990 points. Housed in Gottlieb's classic wedge head cabinet style, the game delivers its audio feedback through three chimes and a knocker.
The Buccaneer's pirate-themed artwork by Gordon Morison brings a colorful world of high-seas adventure to the playfield and backglass, making it an appealing example of late-EM Gottlieb design for collectors and enthusiasts today.
