Tropic
About This Machine
Tropic was manufactured by Glickman Industries of Philadelphia, with the earliest known reference dating to June 1942. It was a converted game based on Exhibit's 1940 'Zombie', following Glickman's usual approach of refitting existing cabinets with a new backglass and bumpers before later offering the conversion as a standalone kit.
As a flipperless, single-player electro-mechanical machine, Tropic's gameplay was simple and largely luck-driven, using bumpers and rollovers to generate scoring in the years before flippers were introduced to pinball.
Little specific information is documented about Tropic's design, art, or theme. Its scarcity today, as one of Glickman's short run of wartime conversion games, makes it a notable piece of pinball history for collectors.
