Bronco
About This Machine
The Bronco, manufactured by Chicago Coin Machine Manufacturing Company in May 1964, is a stylish addition to any pinball collection. Designed by Al Schlappa and Jerry Koci, this two-player electro-mechanical game carries a Western rodeo theme from a manufacturer that had been building coin-op games since the early 1930s. An add-a-ball version of the game was also released by Chicago Coin in 1964 under the same 'Bronco' name.
The gameplay experience on the Bronco is both challenging and rewarding, thanks to its combination of two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, two standup targets, two kick-out holes, and an action ring - identified on the manufacturer's flyer as the "Corral". The kick-out holes are particularly noteworthy, as they propel the ball upwards to the action ring in a thrilling display of mechanical ingenuity. This interplay between different playfield components creates a dynamic experience that keeps players engaged.
From a design perspective, the Bronco's bold Western theme instantly evokes the spirit of the open range, and the work of Schlappa and Koci on this machine remains a testament to their skill in crafting a memorable mid-1960s pinball experience.
