Sweethearts
About This Machine
Sweethearts was manufactured by Glickman Industries of Philadelphia, with the earliest known reference dating to March 1942. It was a converted game based on Exhibit's 1941 'Stars'; Glickman initially performed the conversion work for operators before later selling it as a kit consisting of a new backglass and bumpers.
As a flipperless, single-player electro-mechanical machine, Sweethearts offered the straightforward, bumper-and-rollover gameplay typical of pinball before flippers existed — flippers would not be introduced to the game until 1947, several years after Sweethearts was produced.
Little specific information survives about Sweethearts' artwork or theme. Its rarity as one of Glickman's wartime conversion titles makes it a notable find for collectors and historians of early pinball.
