Sixty Grand
About This Machine
Sixty Grand was manufactured by Glickman Industries of Philadelphia, with the earliest known reference dating to February 1942. It was a converted game based on Genco's 1940 'Big Town', part of Glickman's wartime business of refitting existing cabinets with new backglasses and bumpers, later sold purely as an installable conversion kit.
As a flipperless, single-player electro-mechanical machine, Sixty Grand's gameplay centered on guiding the ball via bumpers and rollovers rather than flipper control, since flippers would not appear in pinball until years later.
No specific information survives about the machine's design, art, or theme, which is typical of many pinball titles from this period. Its rarity as one of Glickman's short run of wartime conversions makes it an interesting piece of pinball history for collectors.
