About This Machine

The 1932 Manhattan Sales Company Treasure Island is a table-top/counter pure mechanical (PM) game, manufactured exclusively by the Evansville, Indiana company and originally sold for $12.50 (with an optional wood stand for an additional $3.50).

The Treasure Island boasts several distinctive gameplay features for its time. A ball can be shot into a loop that completes 270 degrees around the playfield before being delivered to the mid-playfield, where it can potentially land in the wide-pocketed Treasure Chest hole, which doubles the entire score. The machine also features 10 trap holes and offered players a choice of 7 balls for 1 cent or 10 balls for 5 cents.

The Treasure Island's design is notable for its decalcomania numerals on a gold-colored playfield featuring yellow, green, white, blue, violet, and red colored pockets. The cabinet, advertised with a walnut finish, measures 31 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 6-9 inches high front-to-back. Little else is documented about the machine's designer or theme, but its mechanical ingenuity makes it an interesting piece of early pre-flipper pinball history.
