About This Machine

Brite Star, manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in April 1958, is a classic two-player electro-mechanical pinball machine from Gottlieb's golden era. Designed by Wayne Neyens with artwork by Roy Parker, the show-business-themed game was produced in a confirmed run of 800 units, and its backglass carries Gottlieb's famous slogan: "Amusement Pinballs, as American as Baseball and Hot Dogs!"

Key features include two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, and three roto-targets, which add variety and shifting scoring opportunities. Distinctive left and right triple outlanes give the lower playfield an unusual character, challenging players to keep the ball in play. A double match feature awards 2 or 10 replays as an operator option, the replay wheel holds a maximum of 26 replays, and the tilt penalty ends the game for the offending player. The maximum displayed score is 1,999 points per player.

With Roy Parker's colorful artwork evoking the glamour of show business, Brite Star is a fine representative of Gottlieb's late-1950s output. Gottlieb documentation dates the game to April 1958, revising an earlier reported date of February 11, 1958.
