The Hunter
About This Machine
The Hunter is a 1980 conversion kit produced by Bell Coin Matics of Bologna, Italy, intended to convert existing pinball cabinets into a new game — in this case, built around a wartime theme borrowed from the 1978 film 'The Deer Hunter.' The flyer indicates the kit was produced for export from Italy.
As a solid-state, four-player conversion, The Hunter includes two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, six standup targets, three star rollovers, a five-bank drop target, and a spinning target. The artwork, signed by Michele "Mike" Martinelli, features a woman who also appears on the backglasses of Arkon Automaten's 'Sexy Girl' (1980) and 'Sexy Girl (Delux)' (1983), suggesting shared artwork or stock imagery circulating among European manufacturers at the time.
As a conversion kit rather than a standalone cabinet, and coming from a short-lived manufacturer (Bell Coin Matics operated only from 1978 to 1980), The Hunter is a scarce and unusual piece of late-1970s/early-1980s Italian pinball history.
