About This Machine

Cosmodrome, released by Bell Coin Matics of Italy in 1980, is a Solid State Electronic (SS) pinball machine notable for being a conversion kit rather than a standalone cabinet build -- the known example was created from a water-damaged Bally 'Evel Knievel' cabinet, reusing its original Bally MPU. Its playfield layout matches Bell Coin Matics' own 1979 'White Shark,' and the backglass artwork was adapted from a promotional poster for the 1979 film Moonraker.

The gameplay features of Cosmodrome include two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 5-bank of drop targets, four standup targets, a kick-out hole, and a spinning target, offering a varied challenge typical of the period.

Very little is known about the design or original theme intent of Cosmodrome beyond its technical specifications and its patchwork origins as a conversion kit. This mix of borrowed art, reused hardware, and limited documentation contributes to its status as an obscure and intriguing curiosity among Italian pinball collectors.
