Fireball
About This Machine
This Fireball was manufactured by Centro Matic S.A. of Spain in 1973, and is a single-player adaptation of Bally's 1972 four-player 'Fireball.' Compared to the original Bally version, this Spanish release drops the multiball feature, uses zipper flippers, has a right-side ball return gate, and has one fewer kick-out hole.
Gameplay retains much of the original's layout: two flippers, three pop bumpers, three mushroom bumpers, two slingshots, a kick-out hole, a messenger ball, a standup target, and a spinning disc, set on a wedge-head cabinet. A special is lit at the captive ball target once the player rolls all 8 buttons of the central whirl; scoring accumulates in the kick-out hole and via the spinning disc's rollover buttons, and the three mushroom bumpers boost scoring further. A ball-save feature covers the lower lane, and the game includes a match feature at the end of play.
As a licensed regional take on a well-known American design, this Spanish Fireball offers an interesting look at how European manufacturers adapted popular American machines for their own markets in the 1970s, trimming some features while keeping the core Fantasy-themed playfield largely intact.
