Johnny Mnemonic
About This Machine
Johnny Mnemonic, designed by George Gomez and released by Williams in August 1995, is a solid-state pinball machine licensed from the William Gibson short story and its 1995 film adaptation, bringing players into a cyberpunk future. Art was handled by John Youssi, with sound and music by Dave Zabriskie and software by Tom Uban.
The machine runs on two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, and two ramps, and features a Magnetic Ball Lift via a movable hand/glove toy along with a Matrix Ball Lock. Multiball comes in several forms, including a Touch Tone Multiball (where the player targets "Crazy Bob's" while digits flash on a telephone display to build a jackpot), a Quick Multiball, and a 3-ball Multiball, alongside a Video Mode and a Power Down Wizard Mode that runs 4 balls continuously.
Williams produced 2,756 confirmed units of Johnny Mnemonic. While detailed reception history isn't well documented, its distinctive cyberpunk theme and layered multiball modes make it a notable mid-1990s Williams title for collectors.
