Bullfight
About This Machine
Bullfight, designed by Ted Zale and manufactured by Bally in January 1965, is an electro-mechanical, single-player pinball machine with a bullfighting and 'World Peoples' theme. Bally produced 825 confirmed units of the game.
The gameplay features two flippers, three pop bumpers, seven mushroom bumpers, and three slingshots, along with a right outlane ball return gate. Its standout mechanic is the Rotary Target Selector: hitting an Advance target steps the selector one position, lighting a different combination of targets and rollovers for increased value, with the selected combination carrying over into the next game -- adding a layer of strategy uncommon on machines of the period.
Bullfight's playfield uses Bally's 'Tuff-coat' finish, and the machine includes a replay wheel with a maximum of 25 along with a two-bell-and-knocker sound package, both standard for Bally's mid-1960s EM output. Little further detail survives about the specific artwork beyond its bullfighting theme, but the Rotary Target Selector mechanic makes Bullfight a notable design from Zale's body of work for Bally.
