About This Machine

The Playmatic Antar, manufactured in November 1979, is a four-player solid-state pinball from the Spanish manufacturer, built around a Dragons and Fantasy theme. It was reportedly produced in two distinct versions - the second with simplified playfield artwork and new melodies - though Playmatic's exact reasons for the reissue (and whether it involved an MPU change) remain unconfirmed.

The Antar features three flippers, a single pop bumper, ten memory drop targets, and four standup targets. Two ball kickers add difficulty, while two kick-out holes, a solitary drop target (without memory), and a spinning target round out the shot list. A distinctive mechanism uses two reset coils operating one long metal bar to simultaneously reset all ten memory drop targets after each ball.

Specific designer and artist credits for Antar are not documented, and details distinguishing its two production versions - including which MPU board (Playmatic MPU-1 or MPU-C) each used - remain an open question among collectors. Its fantasy theme and mechanically ambitious drop-target bank make it a notable entry in Playmatic's late-1970s solid-state lineup.
