Flash Dragon
About This Machine
The Flash Dragon, released in 1986 by Playmatic of Barcelona, Spain, is a solid-state electronic (SS) pinball machine with a fantasy theme, built around backglass art -- a rendition of 'The Dragon Lord' by artist Rodney Matthews -- depicting Elric of Melniboné, the fictional antihero created by fantasy author Michael Moorcock.
Gameplay on the Flash Dragon features two flippers, three pop bumpers, nine standup targets, a 3-in-line drop target bank, a single drop target, and a spinning target, giving players plenty of scoring routes. A standout feature is the messenger ball, a secondary ball element that adds a dynamic visual and gameplay layer to the machine.
The Flash Dragon's most memorable gimmick is its Polaroid camera housed in the backbox: a player who beats the game's high score receives an instant photo capturing that moment. This novel feature, paired with its striking fantasy-themed art, makes Flash Dragon a distinctive entry in Playmatic's catalog and a fun find for collectors interested in unusual pinball gimmicks.
