Big Town
About This Machine
Big Town, manufactured by Playmatic of Barcelona, Spain in April 1978, is an early example of solid-state electronic (SS) pinball design from this manufacturer. Its innovative features and layout make it an interesting addition to any pinball collection, and its ROM set was reportedly shared with Playmatic's 1978 'Last Lap' and 1979 'Party.'
The game's playfield boasts three flippers, a pop bumper, mushroom bumper, slingshot, four mini-rollover buttons, two 5-bank drop targets, a kick-out hole, and dual right inlanes. The unusual opening shot propels the ball across the playfield towards the upper left lanes, providing a challenging start to each game. Additionally, an electrical gate at the top end of the shooter lane adds an extra layer of complexity to gameplay.
Big Town's city skyline theme is visually distinctive, with its compact design making it an attractive addition to any home arcade or collection. Unfortunately, no information on the designer or specific artwork details could be found through web research. Despite this lack of information, Big Town remains an interesting example of Playmatic's solid-state pinball output in the late 1970s.
