Zira
About This Machine
Zira, manufactured by Playmatic of Barcelona, Spain, in 1980, is a widebody solid-state electronic pinball machine with a Fantasy theme. Playmatic, active from 1968 to 1987, used its own Playmatic MPU-C system to power the game's electronics.
Gameplay on Zira supports up to four players, with a flexible multi-player option: when two or more players play at the same time, they can choose whether to change players after each ball or to allow each player to finish a full game before switching. The machine features three flippers, two pop bumpers, a 7-bank and a 4-bank of drop targets, a spinning target, a kick-out hole, four captive balls, and both quadruple left inlanes and dual right inlanes -- an unusually dense and challenging layout.
The Fantasy theme is expressed through Playmatic's distinctive art style. While specific information on Zira's designer is unavailable, its striking layout and inventive multi-player format make it an interesting entry in Playmatic's catalog.
